Christmas with the Robertsons

Madayia Coventry

Christmas is just over a month away and this is how my teacher, Mrs. Robertson celebrates. In her home on Christmas morning she loves to wake up with her family, even though they’re all adults now and eat breakfast casserole, drink coffee, and open their stockings together. Usually the stockings were filled with everyday items (like shampoo or deodorant) but she still finds pleasure in opening them while everyone else is still waking up and getting ready for a good day. “One childhood memory that I have from Christmas is leaving the usual cookies for Santa, as always, but we could never leave his reindeer out, you know? So my sister and I would go out into the yard and throw carrots all around and even try to get some on the roof of the house. It’s very important that the reindeer were fueled up too!” On Christmas Eve, The Robertson Family would go to Mrs. Robertson’s parents’ house to eat or to play games and enjoy each other’s company. When Mrs. Robertson was asked what her favorite Christmas song was, she replied with Mariah Carey’s “All I want for Christmas is You.”
